Calico Heritage Turkey

The Calico Heritage Turkey is one of the most visually striking and uniquely patterned heritage breeds available. With feathers splashed in white, bronze, red, and black, each bird displays its own distinct mosaic of colors — no two are ever alike. This natural variation makes them a true showpiece for any homestead or small farm.

At Little Yardley Farm, we take pride in raising healthy, hardy turkeys the old-fashioned way — outdoors on pasture with plenty of space to roam, forage, and grow naturally. Our Calico Heritage Turkeys are bred for both beauty and practicality, offering excellent flavor, steady growth, and the calm temperament that makes heritage breeds so rewarding to raise.

About the Calico Heritage Breed

The Calico is a cross between several historic turkey varieties, carefully selected over time to create a bird that’s not only gorgeous but also strong and productive. They tend to be medium to large in size, with toms averaging 20–25 pounds and hens around 14–18 pounds when mature.

Their gentle personality makes them a wonderful choice for small farms and families. Calicos are excellent foragers, preferring to graze on grass and insects, which helps create that rich, natural flavor heritage turkeys are famous for.

Exceptional Table Quality

Customers love the Calico Heritage Turkey for its flavorful, juicy meat. Unlike the commercial broad-breasted types, Calicos mature at a natural pace, allowing their muscle and fat to develop evenly — creating that deep, old-fashioned turkey taste you just can’t buy in stores. Whether you’re looking to raise your own for Thanksgiving or sell pasture-raised birds to local customers, this breed is a standout choice.

Sustainable and Farm-Raised

Every turkey we raise at Little Yardley Farm is part of our sustainable approach to small-scale poultry farming. Our turkeys are provided fresh pasture, high-quality feed, and plenty of sunshine. We never use routine antibiotics, and we encourage natural behaviors like dust bathing and grazing.

We believe healthy animals produce healthier food — and the Calico Heritage Turkey is a perfect reflection of that belief.

Ideal for Breeders and Backyard Farmers

This breed reproduces naturally, so you can keep your own breeding pair or trio to maintain a self-sufficient flock year after year. Calicos are good layers for a turkey, producing a fair number of large, speckled eggs during spring and early summer.

Farm Pickup, Scheduling & Local Delivery Option

All live turkey purchases from Little Yardley Farm are available for local pickup only at our farm in Rutledge, Tennessee, unless other arrangements have been made. Once your order is placed, you’ll receive an email with pickup details, directions, and times. We typically schedule pickups on Fridays and Saturdays between 9 AM and 2 PM, but we’re happy to arrange an alternative time if needed — just contact us before your visit.

To protect the health and well-being of our birds, we do not ship live turkeys. However, we understand that travel isn’t always easy for everyone. For an additional fee, we’re willing to meet at an agreed location after an online purchase has been completed. This convenience fee is based on mileage from our farm to the meeting point and calculated according to the current federal per-mile travel reimbursement rate published by the IRS.

Customers need to bring a secure carrier or crate that is the proper size for safe transport home. For questions about care, feeding, or available breeds, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to help make your experience with Little Yardley Farm as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Delivery Fee Policy

At Little Yardley Farm, we understand that not all customers can make the trip to our farm in Rutledge, Tennessee. While we do not offer shipping for live animals, we’re happy to meet customers at a mutually agreed-upon location after an online purchase has been completed.

Delivery or meeting fees are determined by the distance from our farm and are calculated using the current IRS standard mileage rate, a nationally recognized measure for fuel and travel expenses. (For 2025, this rate is $0.67 per mile, round trip.)

Because travel times and fuel costs vary, we’ll provide an exact total before confirming your delivery arrangement. This fee must be paid prior to the meetup. At the time of pickup or delivery, customers are required to bring their own secure carrier or crate to safely transport their live animal home.

Our goal is to make pickup and delivery as simple, safe, and transparent as possible while maintaining the health and well-being of our animals.
